Decolonizing Fashion and Mobilizing Indigenous Resurgence

Riley Kucheran is a PhD student and Indigenous Advisor at Ryerson University in Toronto. His research examines clothing and colonization, contemporary Indigenous fashion design, and how entrepreneurship can contribute to Indigenous cultural and economic resurgence. 

He is an active member of the Indigenous community and works with the Toronto Indigenous Business Association, Indigenous Fashion Week Toronto, the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto and NaMeRes, Toronto’s Native Men’s Shelter. At Ryerson he organizes the Pow Wow, is a member of the Aboriginal Education Council, REB, Senate, and is working with the Office of the Provost on Ryerson’s Truth & Reconciliation strategy.
