Trudeau Scholar Memee Dawn Lavell-Harvard was bestowed an honourary Doctorate of Education this month by Nipissing University. The 2003 scholar, currently the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) President, was presented with the honourary degree in North Bay during the university's convocation on June 9.

Dawn-Harvard is co-author of "Mothers of the Nations: Indigenous Mothering as Global Resistance, Reclaiming and Recovery," and co-editor of "Until Our Hearts Are On the Ground: Aboriginal Mothering, Oppression, Resistance and Rebirth."

She completed her PhD in Education at University of Western Ontario and while a Trudeau scholar, was mentored by Trudeau mentors Diom Roméo Saganash and Judith Maxwell.
