On 18 March at the Simon Fraser University, 2015 scholar Anelyse Weiler is co-organizing a symposium entitled “Growing worker power: Innovative organizing across the food system.” The event funded by the Pierre Elliott Foundation will focus on the creative, emergent and alternative forms of collective organizing developed by low-wage workers across the food system who face barriers to traditional forms of unionization. Presenters include scholars, activists and worker-organizers from Canada and the United States.

Anelyse Weiler (sociology, University of Toronto) wants to understand how the perspectives of migrant farmworkers in North America on environmental, health, and equity issues can inform local and international efforts to realize more sustainable food systems.
