PETF - General announcements

William J. Schultz is a former Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, Killam Trust and Vanier Canada doctoral scholar at the University of Alberta. He has also worked as a lead researcher on the University of Alberta Prisons Project, headed by Drs. Sandra Bucerius and Kevin Haggerty.

Before beginning his MA at the University of Alberta in 2015, Will spent five years working in a provincial prison as a correctional officer. This experience has deeply influenced Will’s writing and research interests and has allowed him to bring real-world perspectives into his academic work. Currently, Will’s research interests centre on the life experiences of incarcerated people, the influence of fentanyl and other drugs on prison environments, gangs and radical ideological groups in prison and how correctional officer cultures impact the daily operations of prisons.

In his spare time, Will enjoys volunteering, singing, playing sports, and reading.
