Martha Paynter is a registered nurse practicing in abortion and postpartum care in Nova Scotia. She is the founder and chair of Wellness Within (WW), a registered non-profit organization that works to advance reproductive health, social justice and prison abolition. Ms. Paynter holds graduate degrees in economics and health research and is a PhD Candidate in Nursing at Dalhousie University. Her research examines reproductive health of people experiencing criminalization. She is the author of Reproductive (In)Justice in Canadian Federal Prisons for Women, a 2021 report based on conversations with 200 people in prisons across the country.
