Jasmine Feather Dionne is Cree and Métis, and is from Saka Wiyiniwak, an area known for its boreal forests and refers to the Indigenous nations located in and around Northeastern Alberta. Born and raised in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Jasmine left home to pursue studies. Her research objectives are inspired by her home territory.
One of her commitments is the development of solutions to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and LGBTQ2S+ crisis. She believes that by renewing and restructuring kinship governance practices and utilizing diplomatic legal orders to re-instill the foundations of what it means to protect relations, thorough nation-based solutions to this crisis can be developed. The guiding principle of her work is kanaweyimowewin, a Cree term meaning to protect and defend.
