Carlos Ernesto Sanchez Pimienta (he/him)

Fields of Interest

Carlos E. Sanchez-Pimienta is a PhD Candidate in Social and Behavioural Health Sciences at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, on the Treaty Lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico, his work is inspired by the grassroots environmental health movements he was part of in his homeland.

He holds an MSc from Queen’s University, where he focused on Indigenous health promotion. His research explores the intersection of public health, sustainability, and Indigenous ways of knowing, with a focus on bridging Western science and Indigenous knowledge in ecological public health education. He has published on Indigenous health promotion, intersectoral action, and ecological public health, and his contributions have been recognized by awards such as the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship, and the Massey College Junior Fellowship.

Carlos collaborates with M’Wikwedong Indigenous Friendship Centre (Owen Sound, Canada) and Un Salto de Vida (El Salto, Mexico) and aims to expand his work to policy at national and international levels. He speaks Spanish, English, and French, and enjoys dancing and hiking in his free time.
