    Margaret Bloodworth is a former senior public servant who was most recently Associate Secretary to the Cabinet and National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister (2006-2008).  Prior to that she was the first Deputy Minister of Public Safety (2003-2006), Deputy Minister of Defence (2002-2003) and Deputy Minister of Transport (1997-2002).

    After being called to the bar in 1979 she started as counsel to the former Canadian Transport Commission (CTC).  She served in various capacities including General Counsel to the CTC and Director General for Dispute Resolution at the National Transportation Agency before moving to the Privy Council Office in 1989 where she was Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet (Legislation and House Planning) (1989-1994) and Deputy Clerk, Security and Intelligence and Counsel (1994-1996).

    Currently she is a member of the boards of the Hospice at May Court, the Canadian Ditchley Foundation, Cornerstone Shelter and Housing for Women and the World University Service of Canada.  She also volunteers with the United Way and various other organizations in addition to involvement in several other projects.

    She has been awarded the Public Service of Canada Outstanding Achievement Award, the Vanier Medal of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada, a honorary degree from the University of Winnipeg, a honorary diploma from the Canadian Coast Guard College and is a Charter member of the Common Law Honour Society of the University of Ottawa.
