    Mr. Guy Saint-Pierre began his career as an officer in the Corps of Royal Canadian Engineers at Camp Gagetown, New Brunswick, in 1959. From 1964 to 1966, he was the registrar of the Corporation of Engineers of Québec, then vice-president of Acres Québec until 1970. He was elected to the Québec National Assembly in April 1970. He served for two years as minister of education and from 1972 to 1976 was the minister of industry and commerce. In 1977, Mr. Saint-Pierre joined John Labatt Ltd. as assistant to the president. The next year, he was appointed president and general manager of Ogilvie Mills Ltd. and became president and chief executive officer in 1980.

    Guy Saint-Pierre serves on the board of the Institute for Research on Public Policy. Between 1990 and 2007, he served on the boards of directors of Alcan Inc., BCE, Bell, General Motors of Canada, Royal Bank of Canada and SNC-Lavalin Inc.

    Guy Saint-Pierre retired as chairman of the board for Royal Bank of Canada in February 2004. He had held the position since his appointment in August 2001. Further, he retired as chairman of the board for the SNC-Lavalin Group Inc., a position he held between May 1996 and May 2002.

    Mr. Saint-Pierre graduated from Laval University with a B.A.Sc. in civil engineering in 1957. An Athlone Scholar, he obtained a MSc from the University of London in 1959 and holds a D.I.C. from the Imperial College of Science and Technology.

    Mr. Saint-Pierre has chaired many campaigns, including those of La Bourse Claude Bertrand, the Canadian Business Hall of Fame Foundation, the Richard Schmeelk Canada Foundation, the Sainte-Anne Hospital, the Ottawa University and the United Way of Greater Montreal.

    Mr. Saint-Pierre holds honourary degrees from Concordia University, Laval University, the École des Hautes Études Commerciales of the University of Montréal, Sherbrooke University, the University of Ottawa and le Collège militaire Royal de Saint-Jean. He was named Canada's Outstanding CEO of the Year in 1994. He has been awarded the Sir John Kennedy Medal from the Engineering Institute of Canada and the Gold Medal from the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers. He has been a Companion of the Order of Canada since 2002. Mr. Saint-Pierre is a past chairman of the Canadian Manufacturers' Association, the Conference Board of Canada, and The Business Council on National Issues. He is a Grand Officer of the Nationa Order of Quebec.

    Mr. Saint-Pierre passed away on January 2022.
