Andrea Nemtin has spent over 25 years leading organizations and initiatives that drive positive social and environmental change. As the current CEO of Social Innovation Canada, Andrea focuses on applying innovation to complex social and environmental challenges through multi-sectoral collaborations. She is committed to fostering transformative solutions that address pressing societal issues, create cohesive and prosperous communities, and champion sustainable innovation.
Andrea’s career spans philanthropy, media, social innovation, and impact investing, reflecting her entrepreneurial spirit and passion for problem-solving. She began her changemaking journey at Adbusters Media, where she spearheaded impactful social marketing campaigns, including "Buy Nothing Day" and efforts to protect Clayoquot Sound’s old-growth forests. After relocating from Vancouver to Toronto, Andrea spent 15 years as President and CEO of PTV Productions, creating award-winning documentaries and interactive media that spotlighted social issues.
In 2010, Andrea entered the philanthropic sector as the founding President and CEO of Inspirit Foundation. Under her leadership, the foundation launched pivotal initiatives, including the Philanthropic Community’s Declaration of Action in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and a roadmap toward a 100% impact-investing portfolio. Her efforts earned her the Governor General’s Meritorious Service Award in 2017 for advancing inclusion in Canada.
Andrea’s impact investing journey deepened during her tenure as Executive Director at Rally Assets, where she worked to align capital with social and environmental values. By enabling organizations and individuals to leverage investments for meaningful change, Andrea helped accelerate the shift toward sustainable impact-focused strategies.
A dedicated advocate for collaborative systems change and equitable innovation, Andrea serves on the boards of the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority and Challenge for Change. Her leadership extends across sectors, combining her expertise in strategic philanthropy, media, and social innovation to drive systemic transformation.
Rooted in her belief in media’s potential for social change, Andrea’s work reflects her desire to be deeply connected to the issues she addresses. Each step of her career has strengthened her dedication to creating sustainable progress through innovative solutions and trusted collaborations.
Andrea grew up in Vancouver, studying communications and economics at Simon Fraser University. She now resides in Toronto with her son, James. Known for her optimism, tenacity, and enthusiasm for what’s possible, Andrea continues to work tirelessly to put people and the planet first.
