Veronica Øverlid is a researcher at Centre for Intercultural Communication at VID Specialized University in Stavanger, Norway, and specializes in migration law and policy, human rights and North-South relations. Her PhD dissertation in Legal Studies from Carleton University examined the Central American ‘migrant caravans’ and their implications for international refugee law and policy. Prior to the PhD, she worked with civil society organizations related to human rights and youth in several countries. She has furthermore worked at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Egypt, with a focus on gender-based violence. Veronica has a degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies (BA), and in International Human Rights Law (MA), and has engaged in various types of outreach work, including writing articles for both an academic and non-academic audience.
