Tobias Gerhard Schminke is the founder of the election observatory and poll aggregator Europe Elects, which he established in 2014 and incorporated in 2019. Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at Dalhousie University (Halifax). He obtained a B.A. in Media and Communication Science (Publizistik) with a political science minor at the Johannes Gutenberg University (Mainz, Germany) and Haifa University, Israel.
He graduated with an M.A. in International Development Studies from Saint Mary's University (Halifax), receiving the Governor's Gold Medal and the James Morrison Medal for his fieldwork-focused research in Uganda. Schminke was the editor-in-chief of treffpunkteuropa.de (2015-2018) and worked for IBM (2020-2021).
Schminke's research interests include elections, voting behaviour, political parties, party systems; development studies, political economy, labour, trade unionism; media and politics, reception research, and political communication.
