Fields of Interest

Lydie C. Belporo holds two master's degrees in law and international relations, and she is a PhD student at the School of Criminology of the Université de Montréal. Her research focuses on the governance of extremist violence in sub-Saharan Africa. She is specifically interested in the trajectories of former recruits of the terrorist group Boko Haram and their reintegration in Cameroon. Lydie is actively involved in her field of expertise and worked as coordinator of PREV-IMPACT project for the UNESCO Chair in the Prevention of Radicalization and Violent Extremism in Canada before becoming a research associate for a study led with the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie. Previously, she served at the Court of Arbitration of Côte d'Ivoire, in the Training Section of the International Bureau for Children's Rights and as a researcher with the Peace Operations Research Network in Montreal.

Socially committed, Lydie is a representative on the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee and sits on the Board of Directors of the Association des jeunes philanthropes de l'Université de Montréal. She particularly enjoys sharing experiences and co-founded the international network of women doctoral students (RIFDOC). Above all, she is very proud to combine her multiple involvements with her role as a mother.
