What is the deadline for application?
The upcoming deadline for receiving applications from universities is December 17, 2010. Each university will have its own deadlines to select the students whose files will be forwarded to the Foundation by December 17, 2010.

How does a student apply?
Students must be proposed by a Canadian or foreign university. They should consult their university for more information on the university's internal selection process and deadlines, which vary from one institution to another.

Can I send my own application directly to the Foundation?
Files which are sent directly by a student will be automatically declined by the Foundation. Only complete files received within deadline from a university will be considered.

Are applications from foreign students accepted?
Foreign students who have been accepted or will be accepted into a doctoral program at a Canadian university are eligible. The Foundation will favour applications from students of developing countries. Selection criteria remain the same as for any other student, i.e. complete applications must be submitted by a university.

Are Canadian citizens studying in a foreign university eligible?
Trudeau Scholarships can be awarded to Canadian citizens studying at an approved foreign university. However, the vast majority of the scholarships will be given to candidates pursuing doctoral studies into a Canadian university.

Which university must submit my application, the institution where I am currently studying or the one where I applied?
The Foundation accepts applications from any university. It is up to the student to decide which institution will submit the best file on his or her behalf.

Where can I find the application form?
The application form in PDF format is available late August/early September of each year on the Foundation's website.

Does the Foundation provide a format for the reference letters?
There is no format for reference letters. However, the Foundation does require that the letters be signed and that the names and contact information of the referee be clearly stated.

What is the selection process?
Trudeau Scholars are selected through a process that involves nomination by a university, internal and external review and selection panels, an interview, and the formal approval of the Board of Directors.

What is the language used during the interview?
The interview will be held in English or French, or in both of the official languages of Canada, based on the language skills of the finalist.

Does the student's research project have to be linked to the four themes of the Foundation?
A link to one or more of the Foundation themes is a basic requirement of the Trudeau Scholarship.

Does the Foundation offer Scholarships other than at the doctoral level?
The Scholarship program is for students at the doctoral level only. To be more specific, the Foundation does not offer funding for undergraduate and masters programs.

Can I apply if I am studying part-time for my doctoral degree?
Only students studying full-time in a doctoral program are eligible to receive a Trudeau Scholarship.
