Catherine Savard is a human rights lawyer. She is pursuing a D.Phil. in Law at the University of Oxford, where she is currently completing an M.Phil. in Law. She also holds a master’s degree with honours from Laval University.
Catherine’s doctoral research focuses on the emerging prohibition of ecocide in international law. She seeks to benefit from the support of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation to develop an interdisciplinary perspective on her field while expanding her network and developing her knowledge of Indigenous languages. Originally from Québec City, Catherine speaks French, English, and Spanish.
Catherine is Deputy Chairperson of Oxford Pro Bono Publico, a non-profit providing high-quality legal research to organizations worldwide working pro bono. She also serves on the Proforma Committee and the Liaison Committee of the Jeune Barreau de Québec. Since 2022, she represents the Québec Bar Foundation as “Gouverneure de la relève”. Catherine clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada and the Québec Court of Appeal and served as a legal adviser for Canada's National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. On a personal level, Catherine is a trained classical pianist, long-distance runner, and hiking enthusiast.
