Statement of solidarity in memory of the 215 children found in Kamloops

Statement of solidarity

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation community is deeply saddened by the horrific discovery  of a mass grave containing the remains of 215 Indigenous children in British Columbia. We grieve with and offer our condolences to the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation, who have been particularly affected by this terrible tragedy. Our Foundation community, through our Advisory Committee on Diversity, expresses support for our own Indigenous members and all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada as they continue to live with the traumatic impact of the residential school system and the many wrongs that we all must acknowledge. We further support the long-overdue search for remains of other Indigenous children who never returned home from the residential schools. We are committed to continuing to work together in the spirit of love, respect, reconciliation, and healing.
