Statement From The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation

The Board of Directors of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation has taken note of the executive summary recently filed by the law firm Norton Rose Fulbright Canada at the request of the Special Independent Committee into the circumstances surrounding the acceptance of donations, alleged to have been linked to the Chinese government.

This independent committee was led by two volunteer lawyers who have never been members, directors, or employees of the Foundation. Stuart H. (Kip) Cobbett is a Montreal-based lawyer and Peter MacKinnon is a lawyer and jurist as well as President Emeritus of the University of Saskatchewan. The Committee had retained the services of the law firm Norton Rose Fulbright Canada that had never previously carried out a mandate on behalf of the Foundation.

The independent external review provides vital reassurance to the Foundation Community.

We look forward to the Foundation’s future fulfilling its unique role in supporting excellence in the humanities and social sciences in Canada.
