    Rémy-Paulin Twahirwa is involved in various social justice causes, notably the human rights of migrants and refugees. As a researcher and community organizer, he developped an expertise on issues related to discrimination, racism and socio-economic inequalities. M. Twahirwa sits on the Board of Directors of the solidarity organization Alternatives and is a member of the Conseil interculturel de Montréal. He is also a founding member of the collective Lectures radicales Montréal. He holds two degree in Social Sciences, the first from the Université du Québec à Montréal (M.A. Political Science) and the second from the Université de Laval (B.A., International Studies), and is currently a Ph.D. student in Social Sciences at the London School of Economics. His research focuses on detention centres in Canada and in the United Kingdom.
