Rajdeep Singh Gill is an interdisciplinary scholar, cultural theorist, curator, and educator. His doctoral dissertation in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of British Columbia entitled Transforming Curatorial Practice : Envisioning and Nurturing Ethical-Creative-Archival Ecologies of Connectedness, explored intersections of creativity, archiving, social and cognitive justice. His critical and scholarly writings have appeared in local, national, and international journals, magazines, catalogues, and anthologies. Rajdeep’s research areas and interests include interdisciplinary theory and practice, creativity, art, and science, transformative teaching and learning, and cognitive, social, and environmental justice. He teaches in Interdisciplinary Studies at the graduate level at the University of British Columbia, and has also taught in the Critical and Cultural Studies Department at Emily Carr University and the Film and Art History program at the University of the Fraser Valley. Rajdeep was the Curator-in-Residence at the Vancouver Art Gallery from 2003 to 2005 and a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada graduate scholar from 2005 to 2008. He is the co-founder and managing editor of Creativity Commons Collective and Press.

Experience as a Trudeau Scholar

The Trudeau scholarship represented an important acknowledgement of humanities based, justice-oriented research, giving such research high public profile. The additional financial support on top of my Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council award as well as the annual travel funding provided me with important access to more time and resources, which were invaluable in undertaking a more ambitious and challenging program of research. The scholarship thus gave important profile to my research while providing the financial ability to pursue my research with greater access to research related sites as well as to further develop my research ideas through numerous local, national, and international public presentations. Participating in Trudeau community events every year provided a lively context in which to discuss and debate key societal issues with a diverse range of scholars and many national and international public figures, creating a sense of interdisciplinary and intergenerational community. I appreciated and enjoyed these rich opportunities for connection and exchange
