Bessma Momani is a full professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Waterloo and the Balsillie School of International Affairs. She is also a senior fellow at the Centre for International Governance and Innovation. A Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Fellow from 2015 to 2018, Professor Momani has been non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institute in Washington, DC, a Canada-US Fulbright scholar, as well as a visiting scholar at Georgetown University's Mortara Center and at the Amman Institute in Jordan.

She has authored and co-edited over eight books and over 60 scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters that have examined the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, petrodollars, regional trade agreements in the Middle East, and economic liberalization throughout the Arab Gulf and Middle East. Bessma has received a number of Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council awards and prizes for her research on global economic governance and the political economy of the Middle East.

She regularly contributes to national and international media on the Middle East and global economic governance issues and has written editorials for the New York Times, The Economist, The Globe and Mail, and numerous other publications. She received her Doctorate from the University of Western Ontario, a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto.
