Joanna Gruda was born in Warsaw, Poland, and came to Quebec at the age of two. She has been working in the field of translation for almost 25 years. She has translated several books for Linda Leith Éditions, Leméac, Éditions David and Éditions AdA. She also wrote L'Enfant qui savait parler la langue des chiens, published by Boréal in 2013 and since translated into nine languages. The novel was shortlisted for the 2014 Prix France-Québec and won the 2014 Prix des lecteurs émergents de l'Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
