the trudeau foundation papers available
The third edition of the Trudeau Foundation Papers is now available in print and online. This publication is a collection of the texts of the five Trudeau Lectures given in the 2010-2011 lecture cycle. The Trudeau Lectures are an annual series of public talks given by Trudeau fellows and organized in collaboration with Canadian universities. In their lectures, the fellows discuss their ideas, their research, and their role as public intellectuals. Here is a short summary of the content of the latest edition.
♦ Clare Bradford talks about children's books and what they tell us about the cultures and times in which they are produced, with an emphasis on the politics and aesthetics of Aboriginal children's literature.
♦ Isabella Bakker critically examines these new directions in public policy to pose this question: is feminism still relevant for addressing questions of inequality in Canada?
♦ Jeremy Webber argues that nationalism cannot be defined in purely civic terms or that such definitions misstate the true foundation and driving force of contemporary nationalisms. He also argues that there is a form of cultural nationalism that is neither chauvinistic nor closed.
♦ Simon Harel explains the relation between written speech and the fundamental dynamic of individual identity and social integration, as well as the basis for the support required in the face of marginalization and immigration.
♦ Beverley Diamond is questioning the political and social weight given to various concepts of repetition and return in defining contemporary Indigenous modernity.

Wehea Forest is a large undisturbed rainforest located in Borneo Island, one of the most biodiverse places on earth threatened by developments and mining. Brent Loken is working to protect this territory and to preserve its biodiversity. The discovery has been the main subject of a lot of articles in different newspapers and websites around the world. Publication of the 2010-2011 annual report
The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation has released its 2010-2011 Annual Report. This review of the year presents the Foundation as an organization that is original and above all essential, and clearly demonstrates the value of its programs.
In additional to the usual administrative information, the report offers testimony from members of the Trudeau community revealing how the Foundation has influenced their lives and careers. Of course, the Foundation brings to awardees an important financial support, but we also understand while reading the annual report that it opens doors for them to the networks of eminent decision-makers and spreads their novel ideas through events that promote dialogue and knowledge acquisition.
