Jason Morris-Jung is a doctoral student in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management at University of California - Berkeley. With a Master’s degree in Social Work from McGill University, Morris-Jung seeks to place social justice at the center of inquiry into issues of environmental management and conservation for the 21st century. Prior to Berkeley, Morris-Jung lived in Vietnam and Southeast Asia for seven years, working with non-governmental organizations, universities and government on biodiversity conservation, protected areas, non-timber forest products, rural development and poverty alleviation. His current research interests are in the emergent geographies of environmental governance and how they are influencing the capacity for self-determination among local and indigenous communities in the poor and upland regions of Southeast Asia. He is a current recipient of the Trudeau Foundation Scholarship (2007), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Scholarship (2007) and UC Berkeley Fellowship (2006).
