James G. Wright
JAMES G. WRIGHT, 1942-2007
It is with deep sorrow that the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation has learned the sudden death of James G. Wright, director of the Sauvé Foundation, in a gas explosion at his cottage in the Laurentians on Saturday, September 1st. A former Sauvé scholar and friend of the family, the Algerian biochemist and science journalist Meriem Maza, also perished in the tragic incident.
The directors, the members and the staff of the Trudeau Foundation offer their heartfelt sympathies and support to families and friends in this time of great loss and distress. Our thoughts are particularly with Ms. Nancy Wright, Jim's wife, who was severely injured in the accident and is expected to recover.
A real estate lawyer by training and a former city councillor in Westmount, Jim headed the Sauvé Scholars Foundation, a fellowship program that brings stellar students from around the world to McGill University. He was also a member of McGill University's Board of Governors (1997-2006). In honour of his exceptional, long-standing service and commitment to McGill University, he was named governor emeritus in January. He was a graduate of McGill University (BA, 1965) and earned a law degree from Université Laval.
In Jim's death, the Trudeau Foundation has lost a dear friend and an exceptional neighbour. We will honour his memory by offering our support to the Sauvé Foundation and its scholars in these difficult moments.
Sincerely,
P-G Forest
President, The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation
