« Lettres à Kateri », a novel written by 2008 Trudeau Scholar Xavier Gravend-Tirole, is available since a few weeks. This book is a correspondence between a narrator, who is a believer, and his ex-girlfriend, who is atheist. Through their discussion, he tries to convince her about his belief on a modern religion based on love, liberty and openness to others. An article about the novel was recently published in Le Soleil. His prize was conferred on him during a ceremony at Rideau Hall on Tuesday, December 14th. Jeremy Webber (2009 Trudeau Fellow) and Tully's colleague at the University of Victoria, delivered the presentation speech. The Canada Council for the Arts, which administers the Killam program, awards scholars in health sciences, engineering, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences annually for outstanding career achievements.

Grégoire Webber, 2004 Trudeau Scholar, Acting President of the Trudeau Foundation Society and Lecturer in Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science, has written two articles on the question of bilingualism of the Supreme Court judges and the Governor General of Canada. The first one entitled "Bilingualism: A Legal Competency" was published in The Mark on April 15 and the second one entitled "Many Citizens are not bilingual, so our leaders must be" was published in the April 20th edition of The Ottawa Citizen.

2004 Trudeau Scholar Jillian Boyd was selected as part of the Recruitment of Policy Leaders Program (RPL) of the federal governement. Following the announcement, she seized the opportunity to recognize the key role of the Trudeau Scholarships in her personal journey: "It cannot be said enough that the Foundation provides so much more than a scholarship. It provides a family of ongoing support which can help each of us achieve our greatest dreams and aspirations. The Honourable Michel Bastarache, Trudeau Foundation Board Member and retired judge of the Supreme Court of Canada, was appointed chairman of a public inquiry commission by the Quebec Premier Jean Charest. The mandate of the commission is to investigate allegations by Marc Bellemare about the process of appointing judges of the Court of Québec and the Administrative Tribunal of Québec, particularly with regard to allegations of influence by third parties through the process and also through the process of appointing judges to municipal courts and members of the Administrative Tribunal of Quebec.

James Tully, 2003 Trudeau Fellow, received a Killam prize in recognition of his achievements. The specialist in political theory is known for his writings on English philosopher John Locke, examining constitutional theory in an age of cultural and legal pluralism. Since 1981, the Killam prizes have recognized annually the career achievements of five Canadian scholars.

Vincent Pouliot, 2005 Trudeau Scholar and assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at McGill University, has published his first book entitled International Security in Practice: The Politics of NATO-Russia Diplomacy (Publishers: Cambridge University Press).

Julia Christensen, 2008 Trudeau Scholar, launched at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in Yellowknife on April 4th, 2010 an exhibit of artwork, photography, writing, video, etc. from youth across northern Canada in the spirit of the International Polar Year. She has been leading this project with a small team for the past three years, motivated by a desire to showcase life in the North through the eyes of youth. Two members of the Trudeau community were honored at the Order of Canada Investiture Ceremony that was held at Rideau Hall, on Wednesday, April 7. The Honourable Michel Bastarache, Trudeau Board Member, was named Companion of the Order of Canada while the Honourable Edward Roberts, Trudeau Mentor 2010, received the title of Member.  One of our most eminent jurists, Michel Bastarache is known for his invaluable contributions to protecting the linguistic rights of minority communities. He is renowned for his support of the development of common law in French at the faculties of law at the University of Ottawa and the Université de Moncton, where he was also the dean.  Edward Roberts has served as a model of duty, leadership and achievement. A leading cabinet minister under three provincial premiers, he was instrumental in bringing about important reforms in the areas of health, education, social services and government administration.

This annual event celebrates the breadth of research and creative activity at the University of Alberta, and the impact of the university contributions to Albertan and Canadian society as well as around the world.

Christopher Cox, 2009 Trudeau Scholar, was recently awarded the 2010 Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS) and University Microfilms International (UMI) Distinguished Master's Thesis Award for his M.Sc. thesis, "Verbal complementation in Mennonite Plautdietsch: A corpus-based, constructional approach."  The award, granted annually to one candidate among those recommended by the 140 WAGS-affiliated graduate schools in Western North America, is intended to recognize the development of an innovative technology and its utilization for the creative solution of a major problem.

The Writers' Trust of Canada announced that John English, a Trudeau Foundation Member, won the Shaughnessy Cohen Prize for Political Writing for his biography Just Watch Me: The Life of Pierre Elliott Trudeau, 1968-2000, published by Knopf Canada. The prize was awarded at the Politics and the Pen gala in Ottawa.
