2014 scholar Wendell Adjetey gave a presentation entitled “The Fire Next Door: The 1967 Detroit Uprising in the Canadian Imagination” at the University of Toronto’s 2017 Graduate Research Conference. Adejetey compared events in the sister cities of Windsor and Detroit during the 1967 Detroit uprisings to examine the impact that U.S. race relations have had in Canada, and to try to understand the factors that contributed to the divergent paths of African Americans and their Canadian counterparts. The talk was followed by a discussion about the current state of race relations in North America.
