Why is Canada waiting for a new National Housing Strategy to make housing more affordable in out-of-control housing markets like Metro Vancouver? In an op-ed in Vancouver Sun, 2017 scholar Milad Parpouchi reminds us that an effective solution to long-term homelessness already exists for roll-out by BC’s municipal and provincial governments. "Scattered Site Housing First" is an experimental project that supports 300 homeless people experiencing mental illness. In Parpouchi’s view, the most effective Housing First interventions promote recovery by combining decent, private-market housing with medical and social services.
