Steven Hoffman, a leading international lawyer and global health researcher at the University of Ottawa, and 2012 Trudeau scholar, has been appointed as incoming Scientific Director of CIHR's (Canadian Institute of Health Research) Institute of Population and Public Health and is CIHR's lead for global health. This appointment is effective August 1, 2016.

“His outstanding reputation as a global health scientist and lawyer, coupled with a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary research and evidence-based strategies, will be invaluable in continuing to advance the work of the Institute of Population and Public Health and CIHR's global health efforts." As Scientific Director of CIHR's Institute of Population and Public Health, Dr. Hoffman will work with the Canadian population and public health research community and stakeholders to identify research priorities, develop research funding opportunities, build partnerships and translate research evidence into policy and practice to improve the health of Canadians and people around the world.
