$1 million gift and $2 million Match Challenge

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation’s supporters have donated over 35% of match limit to date

Since becoming the chairman of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation’s board of directors in 2013, John McCall MacBain has been dedicated to increasing philanthropic support for the Foundation—to ensure its sustainability and independence. This commitment inspired an extraordinary donation from the McCall MacBain Foundation: a $1 million gift and up to $2 million as a matching gift, which establishes a dollar for dollar Match Challenge for other donors.

On his motivation, McCall MacBain states: “I support the goals of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation to create and share knowledge on important issues and to help foster the next generation of Canadian and global leadership. I believe that the four themes that guide the Foundation’s work— human rights and dignity, responsible citizenship, Canada in the world and people and the natural environment— are more critical than ever to our shared future.”

Morris Rosenberg, president and chief executive officer, expressed gratitude for the McCall MacBain Foundation’s historic commitment: “This gift and the associated Match Challenge is a substantial vote of confidence in the importance of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation’s work.”

With the start of the 2016-17 fiscal year, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation has raised over $750 000 in cash donations toward the $2 million Match Challenge.  The Match Challenge Period started on 1 February 2013 and is open until 31 August 2021 or until the $2 million limit is reached, whichever occurs sooner.

Do you wish to double the value of your gift while contributing to the Foundation’s mission?

About the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation is an independent and non-partisan charity established in 2001 as a living memorial to the former prime minister by his family, friends, and colleagues. In 2002, with the support of the House of Commons, the Government of Canada endowed the Foundation with the Advanced Research in the Humanities and Human Sciences Fund. The Foundation also benefits from private donations. The Foundation encourages critical reflection and action in four areas important to Canadians: human rights and dignity, responsible citizenship, Canada’s role in the world, and people and their natural environment.
