2008 Trudeau Foundation mentor Guy Vanderhaeghe, already a prolific award-winning Canadian novelist & scholar, recently won top fiction honours at the prestigious Governor General's literary awards.

The Trudeau mentor's first collection of short stories in over two decades, Daddy Lenin & Other Stories earned top fiction honour over six other shortlisted publications.

The jury praised the work highly, noting:

Each story is superbly crafted, razor-sharp, wickedly funny. The reader is carried along in the hands of a master, a seasoned professional at the top of his game.

Earning top honours this year for his fourth short story collection, Vanderhaege has also published five novels & two plays.

He was announced as winner of the prestigious awards presented by the Canada Council of the Arts & will receive the prize at the GG literary awards gala at Rideau Hall.
