13 May 2013 - 9:00am to 17 May 2013 - 9:00am

Rodd Crowbush Golf and Beach Resort, Morell, Prince Edward Island

Organized on the theme of Protest and Public Policy, the 2013 Trudeau Summer Institute offers an exceptional opportunity for collaboration and intense networking among Trudeau scholars, fellows, and mentors. A wealth of experiences, knowledge, and interdisciplinary exchange transforms these three to four days of plenary sessions, seminars, excursions, and informal discussions into much more than a conference. The Summer Institute is the ideal place to find out about research being carried out by Trudeau Foundation community members, to make contact with colleagues in preparation for your own events, or to learn more about other disciplines. The four Foundation themes, which span human rights and dignity to Canada in the world, responsible citizenship, and people in their natural environment, form the Institute's backbone and add an interdisciplinary aspect to the discussions.

Registration is restricted to those whom the Foundation has invited to attend. Invitations are non-transferable.

The details about this event are available in the program.

** Because of the recent fire at the Stanhope Beach Resort, the 2013 Summer Institute will now take place at the Rodd Crowbush Golf and Beach Resort, Morell, Prince Edward Island. The Institute will continue to take place from 13 to 17 May 2013.**

Position papers

As you may know, the Trudeau Foundation has commissioned two position papers on protest and public policy for discussion at this year’s Summer Institute. The first paper, entitled Dissent 101: The Place of Activism in the Future of the University, was written by 2004 Trudeau Scholar Bob Huish and will be presented on the morning of Tuesday 14 May. The second paper, A Force of Nature: Emerging Conditions of Social Protest, was written by Sanjay Khanna, a visiting scholar at Massey College, and his colleague, James McKee. Sanjay will present the paper on the morning of Thursday 16 May. We invite you to read these texts.
